Select a screw compressor, dryer, receiver and filters as a complete air system. Specify delivered airflow and point-of-use pressure, the moisture and contaminant limits needed by your process, and site conditions. A tank-mounted package label does not establish that each component is correctly sized.

Start with the production requirement
A packaged air system can simplify procurement when every included component and installation responsibility is defined. Start with the machines using air, their simultaneous demand and the pressure needed at the point of use. Decide which moisture and other contaminant limits apply to the process. Compare the dryer, filters, receiver, drains and piping on the same duty conditions as the compressor.

Compare the application details
| Decision | Specify | Evidence to request |
|---|---|---|
| Air demand | Delivered flow, reference conditions and pressure at use | Package performance and demand record |
| Moisture | Required pressure dew point, inlet and ambient temperature | Dryer capacity at the actual operating conditions |
| Storage | Peak duration, pressure band and receiver location | Usable-storage calculation and vessel documents |
| Filtration | Specific contaminants and required limits | Treatment scope, pressure loss and service requirements |
| Installation | Drainage, ventilation, piping, electricity and access | Complete system drawing and included/excluded list |
What the published references establish
Atlas Copco’s receiver explanation distinguishes upstream wet storage from downstream storage of treated air and describes the receiver as a buffer. Its filtration guidance starts with the contaminants the application needs controlled. Neither reference provides a universal tank size or dryer selection for your factory.
Use a representative acceptance trial
Agree measurements for delivered flow, pressure at the consuming machine, dew point and specified purity under representative operation. Include the warmest expected inlet/ambient conditions and a defined demand peak. Confirm how pressure drop, filter service condition and draining are handled. Match component identifiers to the final system drawing and record the commissioning results, maintenance responsibilities and excluded site work.
Prepare a focused quotation request
- Average and peak free-air demand, units and reference conditions
- Minimum pressure required at the furthest or most sensitive machine
- Duration and frequency of demand peaks, shifts and compressor control preference
- Required pressure dew point and the lowest downstream pipe or process temperature
- Ambient and dryer inlet temperatures, elevation, ventilation and electrical supply
- Required particle, moisture and oil limits at identified points of use
- Receiver placement, usable storage calculation, local vessel documentation and drain arrangements
- Included filters, dryer, receiver, drains, condensate handling, piping and installation scope
- Clean and end-of-service pressure drops, maintenance intervals and consumable prices
- Commissioning tests for flow, point-of-use pressure, dew point and specified purity
For OEM / ODM requests, add the branding, packaging, configuration or engineering changes you need, initial and annual quantities, target market and sample approval criteria. Scope, feasibility and commercial terms are confirmed for the specific project.

Frequently asked questions
Does adding a tank increase compressor airflow?
No. The receiver stores air and can buffer demand for a limited period; it does not produce air. Its useful contribution depends on the pressure band, duration of the peak and flow available from the compressor.
Is a refrigerated dryer suitable for every factory?
Choose the moisture target and operating conditions first. Have the supplier confirm the proposed dryer capacity and pressure dew point at the actual inlet and ambient conditions, including the lowest downstream temperature that matters to the process.
Are a dryer and one filter enough to prove clean air?
Not by themselves. Specify which contaminants must be controlled, the limits at identified points of use and the verification method. Confirm the complete treatment train, distribution condition and maintenance requirements.
What should a complete compressor package quote include?
List compressor, receiver, dryer, filters, drains, condensate handling, piping, controls, electrical work, commissioning, training and service. Fix the delivery scope and each component’s duty conditions so competing quotations can be compared.
