Stick pack machine: Selection, Configuration and RFQ Guide

The key decision

Stick pack machines form narrow single-dose packs from rollstock, commonly across several parallel lanes. Their slender format differs from wider flat sachets, and the narrow filling path makes product flow and the clean seal area central to the purchasing decision. Specify the contents, dose, bulk or flow behavior and finished stick drawing with film construction. Include powder dust, granule size or liquid viscosity as applicable. Define opening and presentation requirements rather than assuming all products can use the same former and dosing arrangement.

Narrow format: application and input specification

Stick pack machines form narrow single-dose packs from rollstock, commonly across several parallel lanes. Their slender format differs from wider flat sachets, and the narrow filling path makes product flow and the clean seal area central to the purchasing decision.

Specify the contents, dose, bulk or flow behavior and finished stick drawing with film construction. Include powder dust, granule size or liquid viscosity as applicable. Define opening and presentation requirements rather than assuming all products can use the same former and dosing arrangement.

A narrow stick leaves little tolerance for misplaced product. Powder on the cross-seal or a liquid string can undermine integrity even when dosing is accurate. Inspect the filling-to-sealing sequence with the most difficult normal formulation, not only free-flowing demonstration material.

Parallel lanes: configuration tradeoffs

Compare lane count, dosing principle, longitudinal seam and cross-sealing layout against the product and format mix. More lanes increase feed and discharge coordination. Confirm which change parts are required when stick width changes, not just whether the machine can adjust pack length.

Lane balance deserves measurement. A common hopper or manifold does not guarantee identical behavior across all filling points. Sample accepted packs by lane during a sustained run and record how the supplier adjusts or diagnoses a lane that behaves differently.

Configuration decisions for stick pack machine
Decision What to resolve Useful evidence
Narrow format Product clearance at cross-seal Difficult-content filled packs
Parallel lanes Dose and seal consistency Lane-by-lane samples
Collection Counting and reject identification Presented-pack discharge trial

Process integration and handover points

Assign product supply, reel slitting where used, dosing, registration, coding, cutting and stick collection. Coordinate counting or cartoning and reject separation for each lane. A common discharge must not obscure which pack is uncertain when a fill or seal fault occurs.

Film slitting and tracking affect pack formation. Provide the actual reel, artwork repeat and splice expectations. Ask how the line identifies web problems and what happens to partly formed sticks after a stop, so uncertain packs are not silently counted as good output.

Installation and maintainable operating arrangements

Review access to narrow dosing parts, forming tubes and sealing elements for cleaning. Confirm extraction or drip management, utilities and reel handling. Reserve space for the stick collator or secondary packaging so loose packs do not become an unquoted manual collection task.

Opening performance depends on material and tear geometry. Define how a customer should open the stick and whether the contents pour or squeeze cleanly. Retain approved filled samples rather than judging a tear feature on an empty strip of film.

Acceptance evidence for collection

Run production film and actual contents across every offered lane, checking dose distribution, seal cleanliness, pack dimensions and opening. Include startup and replenishment conditions. Measure accepted sticks after the intended collection or cartoning method instead of treating every sealing stroke as saleable output.

Product supply should match the dosing method. Bulk density changes, hopper level or ingredient segregation can shift the dose or damage particles. Include ordinary replenishment in the trial and clarify whether upstream mixing, conditioning or level control is part of the machine offer.

OEM/ODM scope and future changes

ODM may include specialized dosing, stick geometry, gas functions and collating interfaces. Agree film trials and lane-specific acceptance. OEM artwork and documents can be requested separately, with feasibility confirmed for the actual proposed machine and packaging combination.

Keep stick drawing, film, dosing-tool and recipe revisions connected. A different powder blend or sealant can affect several lanes at once. Review the changed inputs and repeat the relevant dosing, sealing and opening checks before releasing a new single-dose product.

Frequently asked questions

What inputs determine selection of stick pack machine?

Specify the contents, dose, bulk or flow behavior and finished stick drawing with film construction. Include powder dust, granule size or liquid viscosity as applicable. Define opening and presentation requirements rather than assuming all products can use the same former and dosing arrangement.

How should I compare parallel lanes options?

Compare lane count, dosing principle, longitudinal seam and cross-sealing layout against the product and format mix. More lanes increase feed and discharge coordination. Confirm which change parts are required when stick width changes, not just whether the machine can adjust pack length.

Which adjoining operations need to be specified?

Assign product supply, reel slitting where used, dosing, registration, coding, cutting and stick collection. Coordinate counting or cartoning and reject separation for each lane. A common discharge must not obscure which pack is uncertain when a fill or seal fault occurs.

What is a useful acceptance trial for stick pack machine?

Run production film and actual contents across every offered lane, checking dose distribution, seal cleanliness, pack dimensions and opening. Include startup and replenishment conditions. Measure accepted sticks after the intended collection or cartoning method instead of treating every sealing stroke as saleable output.

Which OEM/ODM changes can I request?

ODM may include specialized dosing, stick geometry, gas functions and collating interfaces. Agree film trials and lane-specific acceptance. OEM artwork and documents can be requested separately, with feasibility confirmed for the actual proposed machine and packaging combination.

What application boundary is easy to overlook?

A narrow stick leaves little tolerance for misplaced product. Powder on the cross-seal or a liquid string can undermine integrity even when dosing is accurate. Inspect the filling-to-sealing sequence with the most difficult normal formulation, not only free-flowing demonstration material.
