Aggregate trommel screen: Selection, Configuration and RFQ Guide

The key decision

Separate aggregate or related feed fractions with a rotating trommel selected for material condition, target cuts and the complete handling layout. Compare drum media, feeding and discharge with wear and maintenance needs, then validate useful products using representative feed rather than drum size alone. Prioritize feed, cuts, drum. Use the checkpoints to build a consistent equipment scope and confirm the intended trial or installation evidence. The official image is a product reference; it does not establish availability or an authorized supplier relationship. Submit OEM/ODM changes for application-specific feasibility review.

Define feed and separation objectives

A trommel uses a rotating screening drum to separate material according to the selected arrangement. Provide feed grading, density, moisture and variability, including clay, elongated pieces or other troublesome constituents. Identify the desired products and the fractions to reject or recover. Construction, recycled and other aggregate-related duties should be evaluated individually. The fact that a machine screens one material does not establish its suitability for every rock, soil or mixed feed presented under an aggregate label.

Choose apertures and drum media deliberately

Aperture size, shape and media construction influence separation and wear. State the product grading objective and ask how the selected drum will address it with the actual feed. Material can behave differently from an ideal dry sample, especially where moisture or coatings affect passage. Do not treat a nominal opening as a complete product-quality guarantee. Identify media replacement, available configurations and the evidence supporting the proposed cut rather than select solely from a catalogue drum dimension.

Assess feeding and residence conditions

Useful screening depends on how material enters and moves through the drum. Provide the loading method, expected variation and any required preparation or oversize removal. Ask the supplier to justify the offered arrangement for the intended duty and capacity basis. A feed hopper that accepts a loader bucket does not establish stable screening under every loading pattern. Trials should use representative feed and observe both product streams rather than evaluate the appearance of a turning drum.

Selection issue Information to specify
Feed Grading, density, moisture and troublesome constituents.
Cuts Required products, rejects and grading assessment.
Drum Apertures, media, wear and replacement options.
Process Feeding, preparation and wet or dry boundary.
Layout Outputs, conveyors, stockpiles and mobile setup.
Evidence Representative separation, recovery and stable-operation trial.

Specify wet or dry operation and boundaries

Dry screening and a designed wet arrangement involve different services and material behavior. State the intended process and confirm what is included if spray, washing or water handling is proposed. The Terex Ecotec TTS 620 reference illustrates a mobile trommel platform whose actual offered configuration must be checked. A photo of a mobile screen should not be presented as evidence that a complete wet mineral-washing process is included or suitable for any untested feed.

Coordinate products, conveyors and site layout

Each output needs an appropriate discharge and receiving arrangement. Identify stockpiles, transfer heights, traffic and any downstream process. Check whether integrated conveyors, supports or other accessories are supplied and how they fit the usable site area. For mobile configurations, assess transport and working dimensions separately and clarify setup resources. A compact transport footprint can become a much larger operating layout once conveyors and stockpiles are positioned for the intended material streams.

Plan wear, cleaning and acceptance

Abrasive material and contamination affect media, drum and handling components. Discuss access for inspection, cleaning and replacement using the selected equipment instructions. Obtain part identification and service support for the offered configuration. Acceptance should measure agreed product grading, useful recovery and stable operation using representative moisture and feed conditions. Record the configuration and sampling method. A maximum throughput statement or a trial on easier material should not substitute for evidence of the buyer’s actual separation result.

Bound OEM/ODM to tested screening duty

Discharge organization, identification, selected media and site interfaces may be reviewed. Changes to drum, drives, frame or protective arrangements require engineering and material tests. Provide feed and desired product data with the brief and retain the revised configuration’s instructions and parts. A customized alternative needs evidence for its own separation performance. Reference-brand images do not establish private-label authorization or transfer another machine’s capacity claims to an unassessed drum or material.

Frequently asked questions

Does drum size determine useful screening capacity?

No. Feed grading, moisture, variability, media and the loading arrangement also affect useful separation. Define required products and test representative material. A large drum or a nominal feed figure alone cannot establish the output quality and recovery achievable under the buyer’s actual conditions.

Does an aperture size guarantee the final product grading?

It is only one part of the screening arrangement. Material shape, moisture, coatings and operating conditions influence passage and carryover. State the grading objective and agree sampling and tests for both products and rejects rather than infer complete product quality from the nominal opening alone.

Can any mobile trommel perform wet aggregate washing?

Do not assume it can. Specify dry or wet duty and check services, supplied equipment and suitability for the feed. A mobile-screen photograph does not establish inclusion of sprays, water handling or a complete mineral-washing process, even where the product family serves several material applications.

What discharge information belongs in a quotation?

Identify each product stream, receiving stockpile or process, heights and site access. Confirm included conveyors and supports. Transport dimensions differ from the operating layout, so compare the screen with its deployed discharge and material-storage arrangement rather than the central chassis footprint alone.

How should a trommel be acceptance-tested?

Use representative feed and moisture with the offered configuration. Measure agreed product grading, recovery and stable operation and retain the sampling method. A drum-turning demonstration or a high rate on easier dry material does not prove the intended separation result for the buyer’s actual feed.

Can trommel arrangements be customized through OEM/ODM?

Media, discharge and site interfaces can be reviewed. Drum, drive or structural changes require engineering and material tests. Provide feed and product data and retain instructions and parts identification so the customized configuration has evidence for its own duty rather than inherited reference-machine claims.
