Automatic Liquid Filling Machine: Selection, Cost and RFQ Guide

The key decision

An automatic liquid filling machine should be selected around the product delivered to the customer, including its temperature, viscosity, tendency to foam and any suspended solids. A thin cleaner and a particle-containing sauce can demand different product paths even when their bottle sizes match. Submit container and closure samples from the actual packaging supplier, because neck tolerances and bottle stability affect operation. Establish whether acceptance concerns net quantity, appearance of the liquid level, or both.

Define the liquid and the finished bottle

An automatic liquid filling machine should be selected around the product delivered to the customer, including its temperature, viscosity, tendency to foam and any suspended solids. A thin cleaner and a particle-containing sauce can demand different product paths even when their bottle sizes match. Submit container and closure samples from the actual packaging supplier, because neck tolerances and bottle stability affect operation. Establish whether acceptance concerns net quantity, appearance of the liquid level, or both. Keep this procurement scope focused on dispensing into containers; bag forming and powder dosing belong to separate packaging projects.

Choose the filling method and changeover scope

Piston, gravity, pump and weight-based filling should be compared through product trials rather than nozzle counts alone. Discuss nozzle movement, shutoff, drip collection, bottom-up filling and any heating or agitation needed to keep the product consistent. Request the full range of fill volumes and the smallest economical batch, with all change parts identified. A faster filling stroke may increase foam or splashing, so ask for sustained good bottles with the proposed liquid. Document contact materials, seals and cleanability against the formulation, including concentrated cleaning chemicals used between recipes.

Connect product supply, bottles and utilities

The filler is only one station in a bottle line. Define product supply height, tank replenishment, pump ownership, return piping and how a low-level condition stops production. Confirm infeed spacing, bottle transfer, conveyor elevation and communication with the capper and labeler. Include access for cleaning, nozzle removal and container recovery in the layout. List electrical supply and compressed-air conditions at the machine rather than at the compressor room. If wash water or spills must be contained, assign responsibility for trays, drainage and the surrounding floor before the equipment footprint is approved.

Compare cost per accepted container

A quotation should separate the filler, feed tank, transfer pump, conveyor, controls, format parts and any clean-in-place connection. Add installation, recipe setup, operator training, spare seals and replacement nozzles to the project budget. Model product giveaway and startup waste alongside labor and utilities: a small quantity error can matter over repeated production, but the assumptions must come from trials. Ask which maintenance tasks the local team can perform and which require external service. Agree delivery terms, packaging, freight and destination charges so alternative offers are compared at the same scope boundary.

Establish a representative filling acceptance test

Run samples at the lowest and highest requested fill quantities, using the specified liquid temperature and normal container variation. Record individual net quantities, good output, drips, foam, rejected bottles and stoppage reasons over an agreed period. Include restart after a pause, tank replenishment and a documented recipe change. Test no-bottle behavior, guarded access and fault recovery through the responsible commissioning team. Weighing instruments and sampling methods should be defined in the contract. A video using water is useful for motion review, but cannot establish production acceptance for a different formulation.

Send a focused RFQ and customization brief

Attach the liquid specification, container drawings, sample plan and proposed line layout to the inquiry. State the destination, required languages, purchase timing and whether a standard configuration, OEM branding or an ODM engineering project is required. Custom nozzle arrangements, cleaning circuits, controls and conveyor interfaces need a reviewed design and agreed validation. Identify who owns drawings, recipes and tooling, and request the exact offered configuration in the final quotation. Manufacturer references on this page illustrate equipment families; availability and project performance must be confirmed for the actual offer.

What should you include in your RFQ?

  1. Product and SDS
  2. Viscosity at filling temperature
  3. Particles and shear sensitivity
  4. Container drawings and samples
  5. Fill volumes and allowed deviation
  6. Good bottles per shift
  7. Foaming and drip requirements
  8. Cleaning and product changeovers
  9. Tank feed and product transfer
  10. Conveyor height and interfaces
  11. Power air and drainage
  12. Country OEM requirements and acceptance

For OEM / ODM requests, include the branding, packaging, configuration or engineering changes you need, initial and annual quantities, target market, sample approval and acceptance requirements. Feasibility and commercial scope are confirmed for the specific project.

Frequently asked questions

Can one filler handle thin and viscous liquids?

One filler may handle several liquids only within a tested product and cleaning envelope. Compare viscosity at filling temperature, particles, foam and seal compatibility; require trials before adding a different formulation to an approved machine.

How many filling nozzles do I need?

Nozzle count depends on tested dispensing and bottle-handling cycle time and the required accepted output. Ask for good bottles per shift using your liquid and fill volume, including replenishment, changeovers and normal stoppages.

What upstream tank information matters?

Provide tank volume, outlet elevation, replenishment method, transfer pressure and product temperature. Identify who supplies the pump and piping, how low product level stops filling and whether agitation, heating or a return circuit is required.

What belongs in a complete filling-line quotation?

Include product transfer, tank, filler, conveyors, format parts and the agreed capper or labeler interfaces. Add cleaning connections, installation, training, spare seals and acceptance trials so a standalone filler price is not compared with a complete line.

How should liquid filling accuracy be tested?

Test individual net quantities at the agreed fill volumes, liquid temperature, speed and container variation using a defined reference method. Record distribution, giveaway, foam and drips, including startup, replenishment and restart rather than only an average result.

Can filling equipment support OEM or ODM customization?

Yes. Submit branding, languages, nozzle arrangements, cleaning and line-interface needs through the customization inquiry. OEM and ODM scope depends on manufacturer feasibility, reviewed drawings and trials with your liquid; custom engineering needs explicit acceptance criteria.
