Telescopic boom lift: Selection, Configuration and RFQ Guide

The key decision

Reach elevated work positions with a telescopic boom lift selected from its working envelope, platform load and site conditions. Compare outreach, movement and power with the access task, then define the exact configuration and operating documentation for the destination. Prioritize work points, platform load, site. Use the checkpoints to build a consistent equipment scope and confirm the intended trial or installation evidence. The official image is a product reference; it does not establish availability or an authorized supplier relationship. Submit OEM/ODM changes for application-specific feasibility review.

Describe the work position and access route

A telescopic boom lift positions a work platform through a defined operating envelope. Provide required height, horizontal reach, obstacles and the positions where work must be performed. Include access gates, route width and ground conditions. Maximum height and maximum outreach are separate envelope values and should not be combined into an assumed working point. A machine can reach a headline height yet fail to access the particular location because of the path or obstructions.

Use the load-dependent working envelope

Platform loads include people, tools and material within the permitted arrangement. Some designs have different restricted and unrestricted capacity conditions. The Genie S-65 XC reference illustrates this distinction, but the selected machine’s own envelope and instructions must be used. State the heaviest intended work package and its required position together. A higher platform load value does not imply that the same load is permitted at every reach or boom configuration.

Check terrain and supporting ground

Wheel loads, ground support, slope and the actual travel route influence suitability. Provide surface, ramps, voids or buried structures and the locations used for setup and work. A rough-terrain description does not authorize use on every incline or surface. Have the responsible site team assess the machine’s limits and supporting ground. Include the working area and traffic organization rather than assume the lift can simply drive to any position shown on a plan.

Selection issue Information to specify
Work points Height, outreach, obstacles and required approach.
Platform load People, tools, material and load-dependent envelope.
Site Supporting ground, slopes, routes and traffic plan.
Configuration Jib, rotation, basket and approved accessories.
Power Environment, services and destination variant.
Acceptance Work-position evidence, model documentation and service scope.

Select boom, jib and platform arrangements

The path to the work can depend on jib movement, platform rotation and the machine’s turning or tail-clearance characteristics. Compare the exact offered arrangement against the task. A basket size that accommodates people may still be unsuitable for bulky materials or a required access approach. Ask which accessories are supplied and whether they alter operating conditions. Do not infer options from another variant or assume attachments are permitted because they fit physically.

Match power and environment

Engine, electric or other power arrangements have different site-service and operating implications. Describe indoor or outdoor work, noise conditions and charging or fuel access. Confirm the exact variant and relevant destination requirements. Indoor access does not make engine operation appropriate without the site’s assessment. For electric configurations, define charging and usable work expectations using the intended duty rather than treat a nominal battery figure as a guaranteed operating shift.

Review transport, service and acceptance

Check stowed dimensions, machine mass, delivery access and unloading arrangements with the transport plan. Obtain operating instructions appropriate to the model and serial configuration and the records required for the destination. Training and specialist service should address supplied accessories and controls. Acceptance should verify the ordered equipment, agreed work-position access and relevant functions through competent procedures. A lift should not be accepted solely because it raises an empty platform in a showroom.

Bound OEM/ODM around the platform system

Identification, selected site interfaces and accessory organization can be reviewed. Changes to boom structure, platform, controls or protective functions require engineering and appropriate evidence. Provide the intended loads and work positions with the brief and distinguish standard approved accessories from newly designed items. A customized alternative needs its own operating envelope and documentation. Reference-brand images do not establish permission to reproduce the lift or make claims for an altered platform arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

Can maximum height and outreach be used at the same time?

Not necessarily. The working envelope defines reachable positions for the particular configuration and platform load. Provide the actual work point and obstacles and check the relevant chart. Combining separate maximum dimensions can describe a position the selected lift is not able or permitted to reach.

What do restricted and unrestricted platform capacities mean for selection?

They refer to different permitted conditions on designs that use such arrangements. Check the exact load-dependent envelope and instructions. State people, tools and material with the required work position rather than assume the highest platform load is available throughout the machine’s full reach.

Does rough-terrain capability mean any slope is acceptable?

No. The machine has specified limits and the site must provide suitable support and route conditions. Describe slopes, surfaces and buried or structural risks for the responsible assessment. A terrain label does not replace checking the actual travel and working locations against the equipment instructions.

Are platform accessories interchangeable across boom lifts?

Do not assume they are. Check approved compatibility and any changed loads or operating conditions for the exact model. Itemize accessories in the offer. Physical fit or a photograph of a similar basket does not establish suitability for carrying the buyer’s proposed material or task.

What should boom-lift acceptance include?

Verify the supplied configuration, documentation and relevant functions through competent procedures. Assess access to the agreed work positions with the intended load case and site plan. Include transport and service arrangements; a demonstration with an empty basket at one height does not settle the complete application.

Can a boom lift be customized through OEM/ODM?

Labels and selected interfaces may be reviewed, while boom, platform, control or protective changes require engineering and evidence. Provide the load and work-position requirements and retain a valid configuration envelope. A customized basket or branded machine cannot automatically inherit the reference lift’s operating conditions.
